Goal Planning To-Do List 7 Days

Goal Planning To-Do List

Goal Planning That Can Change Your Life

Goal Setting is a term we hear often, but just like most New Year’s Resolutions, it often fails. The reason is simple. We may get as far as thinking about, writing down, and even narrowing in on our goals, and then life takes over. There are family responsibilities, household chores, and God Forbid- sickness. Phone calls, emails, and the downward spiral into social media derail us.

One day begins to look exactly like the next, one month, and the next thing you know, another year goes by, and not only have you not lost the weight, you gained more. At this point, we feel defeated, and sad, and figure why bother? Or worst of all, we become like rats on wheels. We have habits, but they are not good, so we spin in endless circles, not knowing how to get off the wheel.

2020 has been challenging

I don’t know about you, but 2020 has been challenging. The question is, how do we want to roll into 2021? Do we want to be precisely the same setting the same resolutions destined to fail again? Or, maybe it’s time to commit to working towards becoming the very best versions of ourselves? It’s time to put the work in every single day and manage our time, choose our health, quit online shopping, watch less tv, read more, be less anxious, and look for the good in others again. Unless we purposefully work towards our goals in small increments daily, they are nothing more than words on paper.

Goal Planning To-Do List

Goal Planning is very different from Goal Setting. Yes, the first action is to SET your Goals, but your next move is everything! You must PLAN to work on these goals every day and set up practical systems that help you succeed. Here’s the thing. It IS possible to change! First, we set our goals. Next, we make a plan. Lastly (and the most important part) we TAKE ACTION consistently one day at a time.

Day 1- Set Your Goals

Day 2- Pick Your Top 4

Day 3- Make Your Schedule

Day 4- Limit Distractions

Day 5- Pick something to Read.

Day 6- Review, Refine Your Goal Plan

Day 7- Rest, Restore, Renew

Day 1- Set Your Goals

Let’s Make this super simple! Goal Planning is simply writing down everything that you want to do, change, or have in your life.

Begin to write your goals on a sheet of paper.

** I prefer not to write a to-do list. Mine looks kind of like all the thoughts in my head. Frazzled. Feel free to line it up perfectly on notebook paper. (Whatever works best for you.)

For the next 24 hours, think about which four are the most immediate.

Day 2- Pick Your Top 4

Circle your top 4 that you want to work towards immediately in another color.

Don’t worry if it is not perfect or seems incomplete. Once we start taking care of our immediate needs, more specific goals for our future will begin to come to us. It’s a process. Action is the most important thing to start gaining traction.

Day 3- Make Your Schedule

I highly recommend using a digital calendar. I loved Cozi Gold when my kids were younger.

I could keep track of everyone’s schedule at once, meal planning, and grocery lists. Now

I simply use Calendar on my computer. I can bring in my Salon scheduled clients, and doctor appointments, and then plan around my hardcore commitments.

I get up earlier than I have to in order to complete my goal planning tasks. It’s tough the first week or so, and then it gets easier. The earlier I begin to get up, my body starts to know I have to go to bed earlier. It’s totally worth it. The days I choose not to get up are pretty lousy days, honestly. I am groggy, grumpy, and lack energy.

Write your four goals at the top.

** Next week –

With your goals in mind, each morning, you will take 10-15 minutes to plan your day

with purpose.

Day 4- Limit Distractions

Our world is nothing but distractions honestly. We have to choose what we will allow to distract us! Kids- yes, spouse- yes, parents- yes, boss-yes.

Plan your avoidable distractions. Pick times in your day when you will answer emails, return calls, and texts. Turn off notifications while you are working towards your goals, spending time with family, or being paid by someone to do a job.

** If you have online shopping, FaceBook, or news addictions, I highly recommend BlockSite! BlockSite is a Google Chrome extension that helps you block the sites you want to during your choosing hours.

Day 5- Pick something to Read!

Here is the truth- Successful people read! A Lot! They are conscientious to read things that pertain to their goals, business, and personal growth. If one of your goals is to have a better marriage, get a book on marriage. If you want to be a better parent, get a parenting book. If you have difficulty retaining books, listen to them!

Everyone learns differently, and that is how God made us. Find what works for you. Looking all scholarly in a corner does nothing. We must retain what we are learning. Don’t forget, if you are in the car, that is a GREAT place to advance your learning and skills you are working on by listening to your book in the car. I love to have a book read to me on my phone in my pocket as I go through the house doing daily chores.

Fill your mind with good, clean materials. Audible is obvious but it can be expensive. You would be surprised how many books are free on YouTube. (That is for all of us cleaning up our finances in 2021)

Here are some of my favorite books that I recommend if you are looking for a good book.

Day 6- Review, Refine

Today is the day we do a rough draft of our schedule. On paper, begin to realistically look at the time you have each day to work on your goals. The truth is, you may have to get up earlier. You may need to cut back on some things. The House may have to be a little messy so you can take a walk to get healthier. The point is, it is time to find a way. Managing our time is vital.

Next, you will need your:

Rough Draft

Calendar (wherever you keep doctor appointments, client appointments, and non-negotiable appointments)

The Good Difference Weekly Planner Page

1.) Print your TGD Weekly Planner Page (if you haven’t already)

2.) Write in your non-negotiable appointments

3.) At the top write your top 4 goals

4.) (to the right of your goals) write simple, obtainable ways you will work daily towards your 4 goals

5.) Put on your schedule the times, you will be working on those goals.

Now you not only have goals, but you also have a plan! Next comes ACTION! If we never put action and a little grit into our goals, 2022 will be here before we know it. The question is who will we be? I am declaring, that I will be a better version of myself. I am praying the same for you.

Day 7- Rest, Restore, Renew

Genesis 2:2

By the seventh day, God had finished the work He had been doing; so on the seventh day, he rested from all His work.

Honestly, this has become the most difficult day for me, but I do need it! If I do housework and physical labor, it sets the tone for a lack of energy the following week.

Happy Goal Planning!
